Rob grew up in Chicago in a family of avid boaters, spending time on Lake Michigan and the lakes of Wisconsin and Indiana. Rob discovered early on that life on the water is a passion that never goes away. Rob became an avid water skier, and first mate, on his uncles classic 53’ Chris Craft Connie and later a 57’ Chris Craft Roamer. Rob was fortunate to learn the marine industry from his uncle, he taught Rob boat maintenance from the bottom up, and he and his brothers spent many a winter working on his uncle’s boats while out of the water in dry dock, bottom painting, yearly maintenance and engine room work.
Rob eventually followed another dream and passion to serve others. He was hired as a Deputy Sheriff for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in December of 1986 shortly after his 21st birthday. Rob moved to Florida with his other love in tow, THE WATER. Rob served the Sheriff’s Office for almost 26 years and retired as a decorated veteran.
While working as a deputy, Rob was always drawn to the water, he owned six boats from 16-41 feet, and established two dive companies focusing on yacht maintenance and hull cleaning. Rob built both companies to success, then sold each to fellow entrepreneurs. Rob acquired his Coast Guard 100 ton Captains license and spent some time running several boats as a part time Captain along with numerous boat deliveries for local boat dealerships.
With retirement within sight Rob was approached while working as a Captain by a local Yacht broker to consider a career in Yacht Sales, hopefully, leading to a second career after retirement. Rob jumped in with both feet being not sure where it would lead with only this thought “no risk no reward”.
Rob found this new career to be challenging and worked extremely hard to learn all he could to serve his clients to the best of his ability. Rob worked for a local yacht broker for 8 years learning the yacht industry and establishing his own client base. Rob received numerous awards for being the top broker each year in overall brokerage sales. He contributed that success to building great relationships with his clients and delivering on promises. During his tenure Rob was recognized as the leader among his group, always willing to help and guide the team to successful conclusions. . Rob worked hard and established a niche for himself in the Sport fish and Motor Yacht market from 50-120 Feet.
Rob acquired the desired CPYB certification, ( Certified Professional Yacht Broker) a certification earned by only 10% of all licensed yacht brokers , and requires passing a wide based yacht industry knowledge written exam and ongoing continued education every year.
Rob recently partnered with his good friend and colleague Mark Karampelas, a fellow Yacht Broker (CPYB), and established Blue Horizon Yacht Sales Inc. Our goal is to be a boutique Yacht Brokerage firm focused on building long lasting relationships with our clients and delivering the best services possible to maintain lifelong relations. Rob and Mark are very much in sync in their desire, not to be the biggest yacht brokerage company, but to be the best measured by the best client relationships and service.
